Rajesh T. Gandhi is the Director of HIV Clinical Services and Education at Massachusetts General Hospital and site leader of the MGH AIDS Clinical Research Site in the ACTG. Dr. Gandhi is a member of the NIH Covid-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel and the IDSA Covid-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel. He is also a scientific member of the DHHS Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents, and the IAS-USA Panel on Antiretroviral Drugs for Treatment and Prevention of HIV in Adults. Dr. Gandhi is a Deputy Editor of NEJM Journal Watch Infectious Diseases and NEJM Journal Watch HIV/AIDS.

Controversies in Testosterone Treatment 2020 in Cisgender and Transgender Men

Todd T. Brown, MD, PhD

Todd Brown is the primary endocrine consultant to the Johns Hopkins HIV Clinic. His research focuses on metabolic, endocrine, and skeletal abnormalities observed in HIV-infected patients.  He is the co-chair of the Executive Committee of the MACS WIHS Combined Cohort Study and has served in leadership positions for the ACTG.  He has mentored multiple trainees from across the country and around the world in the area of HIV Comorbidities and Aging. He has published widely on the topic of HIV and endocrine conditions and lectures internationally on this and other issues related to metabolic diseases in HIV.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the potential risks and benefits of testosterone treatment in the older cisgender male.
2. Be familiar with the findings of the T Trials and the clinical questions that still remain.
3. Understand what is known about the risks of testosterone for gender-affirming therapy in transgender men.
