Dr. Vaty Poitevien is the Chief Medical Officer of Housing Works, and previously served as Medical Director for Housing Works’ West 13th Street Health Center. Vaty joined Housing Works in 2005, following fellowship training at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and Harlem Hospital Center, focusing on infectious disease. She received her medical training at the State University of Haiti and completed her internal medicine residency at Brooklyn’s Woodhull Medical Center. She is board certified in both internal medicine and infectious disease. Dr. Poitevien has served lead investigator for HRSA’s Special Projects of National Significance HCV initiative.
Dr. Pierre Richard Arty was born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and was raised in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, N.Y. He completed undergraduate training at Columbia University, and then attended S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn. After completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, he pursued a Fellowship in Addictive Medicine, followed by a residency in Psychiatry at the same institution. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. He currently holds the position as Psychiatric Director for Housing Works, where he provides psychiatric supervision and direct psychopharmacological treatment for adults and those with chemical dependency.
At the completion of this educational session, learners will:
- Understand the importance of harm reduction strategies in the context of chemsex.
- Know how to identify and address psychiatric comorbidities in crystal meth users.
- Be aware of proposed treatment modalities for crystal meth use disorders.
- Appreciate new strategies of outreach and retention for HIV treatment and prevention in chemsex patients.
