Prof McMahon is an Infectious Diseases Physician and Head of the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Unit at the Alfred Hospital and Monash University in Melbourne Australia. He is the current Vice President and President-Elect for Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM), His research interests include clinical trials focused on HIV and COVID-19. For HIV this work is for studied in HIV cure, antiretroviral therapy and the cascade of HIV care. Specific interests in HIV Cure are trials developing non-invasive imaging methods to locate and quantify tissue sites of HIV and clinical trials of interventions targeting the HIV reservoir with latency reversal agents and immunotherapeutics For COVID-19 he leads an adaptive randomised trial of COVID-19 vaccine boosting strategies in immunocompromised hosts and a large prospective study of immune responses to COVID vaccines in immunocompromised populations.

At the completion of this educational activity learners will:
1. Be aware of results from the latest high impact clinical trials affecting the care and treatment for people with HIV.
2. Understand new data from clinical trials and large observational studies on the use of antiretroviral therapy to treat HIV.
3. Understand how the latest ART treatment and observational studies have advanced our understanding on the association between weight gain and certain antiretroviral therapies.

The target audience is all physicians, NPs and PAs involved or interested in HIV education.
